| Consul Alexander Broman, the domineering owner of Tofta varv, a shipbuilding company that has put its imprint on the entire town, is dying in the room that is separated from the stage by a door with a curtain. His son Bertil (Georg Årlin) an engineer, is now the one who would normally take over his father's important place in the town.
